Water Matters Day

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, Broward County will celebrate the 16th Annual Broward Water Matters Day event, featuring the theme “Water Matters…and Conservation Pays”. The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Tree Tops Park in Davie. Water Matters Day is Broward County’s signature water conservation event where residents can learn about our local and regional water resources, how water is managed, and how Broward’s water managers are planning to meet our future water needs. Residents will receive tips on water conservation, find out about rebates and incentives for upgrading to water-conserving devices, learn how to create “Florida-friendly” and drought tolerant landscapes, and get lots of eco-friendly tips.

Water Matters Day exhibits show how to save and protect water through landscape best management practices and through indoor conservation. They also help explain local water management, Everglades restoration, and how our canals connect the County’s urban and natural systems. Workshops with landscaping and gardening experts give attendees insight into how to make their yards less water dependent and more inviting to native wildlife. The workshops provide in-depth information and an important opportunity for learning in small groups where questions can be answered personally. One of the most popular sessions each year is on how to create a NatureScape. NatureScape Broward experts explain the importance of environmentally-friendly landscaping, with tips on plant selection and placement, proper fertilizer and pesticide use, and more.

The best part is that while Water Matters Day is about education, it’s also about fun. The event is packed with workshops, giveaways, children’s activities, and entertainment. For instance, while parents are learning about choosing the right plants for their yards, their children can have their face painted or participate in various activities such as planting flowers to take home.

  • Two Free Trees/Shrubs/Ground Covers per Family!
  • Lots of free environmental education, giveaways and raffles!
  • Food trucks
  • Lionfish and Seafood Sustainability
  • Interactive educational displays/booths
  • Water conservation tips
  • Raffles and other giveaways

Water Matters Day is the largest environmental awareness event in Broward County. Over 50 governmental and non-profits organizations will be on-hand to provide conservation information and the county will distribute free trees and plants to participants.

Family-friendly activities include games, bands, contests, and numerous food trucks! Stop by the City’s Department of Public Utilities educational booth to learn more about our public utility service, water conservation efforts and water quality protection methods.

Park Admission is $1.50 per person (Free for children 5 and under)
